Kalbã (Khwor Kalba) is a city located within the لشارقة (Sharjah). It is located closely to Fujairah, only 8km by road in fact. It is known for a wide gamut of reasons, today one of the best known facts about Kalba is it's extensive mangroves which support a multitude of life and biodiversity, the Booted Warbler (Hippolais calligata) is a rare and unique bird to this habitat, as is the Kalba White Collard Kingfisher (Halcyon chloris kalbaensis). In history however Kalba has a more interesting story to tell; in 1903 it achieved a de facto independence from Sharjah, but was later re-incorporated back into Sharjah in 1952. During it's time as an independent state it had three rulers, Sheikh Said ibn Hamad al-Qasimi, Sheikh Hamad ibn Said al-Qasimi and Sheikh Saqr ibn Sultan al-Qasimi.
