ECONOMIC ADVISOR (Open to Iraq Nationals Only) PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE: August 1, 2008 – July 31, 2009 LOCATION: Al KUT, WASIT PROVINCE SECURITY CLEARANCE: SECRET SALARY: $41,469.61 Open to Iraq Nationals Only DESCRIPTION: The Wasit Province Economic & Business Advisor works closely with the Wasit PRT Economic Team to appraise and advise on current and changing economic Team to appraise and advise on current and changing economic environment of the province. The Business Advisor provides information on the products and services offered by the agricultural, manufacturing and trade/construction business in Wasit. S/he also identifies growth trends in the economic sector. The advisor acts as a liaison between the PRT and business organizations all over the province including the Wasit Investment Commission (WIC), Chamber of Commerce, Agricultural and Business Unions as well as the heads of University, Technical centers and Vocational Training Centers and Vocational Training Centers. The Advisor is also responsible for developing new business relationships between the PRT and business groups or associations in Wasit. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Establish and maintain a contact list of business and agricultural organizations, including key leadership personalities within these organizations and with government officials within this sector. Meet with the aforementioned groups and individuals on a regular basis to promote PRT activities. Provide weekly updates to the PRT on the status of the Wasit economy and issues inhibiting growth within specific sectors. Keep current on the business and farming practices and trends, as well as on the execution of GOI/PC Budgets. Studies and updates the PRT on the status of the governmental Loan Programs such as the current low interest rate loan offered by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (MoLSA) and Ministry of Agriculture, as well as loans offered through the Iraq Company of Bank Guarantee (ICBG). Monitor the dissemination of information on the status and impact of these loan programs and provide recommendations for improvements. Develop and maintain contacts with management staff of the SOE, local Banks, Trade, Construction and Agri-business companies in the Province, and provide appraisal of their potential of profitability and the expansion or decline of their products and services. Provide introductions, coordinate meetings and facilitate the discussion between the leadership at the provincial and the national levels on initiatives emphasized by the PRT. Support the conduct of conferences, meetings and Trade Shows/Expositions. Write status reports and position papers. QUALIFICATIONS: Well established in the Wasit business and investment community and has membership in a variety of local business organizations. Possess extensive experience with business development and is familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of business activity in Wasit Province . Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a recognized four-year college or university; or one to two years’ related experience and/or specialized training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read, analyze, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence in both Arabic and English. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from the Wasit business and farming community as well as the civilian and military leadership of the PRT in both Arabic and English. Computer skills, Micro-Soft Suite of Products and strong business and government contracts.
